Journey King is a multidisciplinary artist, with interests in painting, illustration, fiber arts and printmaking. Her work is inspired by the natural world, and she is known for her detailed gouache. Illustrations of plants, birds and insects. Her style has been described as delicate and whimsical with a strong attention to detail. She also creates landscapes in acrylic paint and single and multi-color linoleum block prints. Recently, she has been incorporating embroidery in some of her illustrations. She completed her associate's in art at Jefferson Sate Community college in the spring of 2023 and is currently working towards a BA in art studio at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. King participated in Jefferson State’s annual student art shows from 2021 to 2023, and she received an award for exceptional performance in Art History in 2023. Since being at UAB King has been included in Student exhibitions in Stern Library, the 501 building and the Gadsden Museum of Art and was on the presidential honor roll last semester. King worked as an intern for Bib and Tucker, a Birmingham nonpro t focused on community empowerment through fiber and textile arts and was co-founded by local artist Lillis Taylor. Through this organization, King got experience teaching fiber arts techniques to elementary to high school aged children and was involved in planning and executing an event for Birmingham fashion week at the Birmingham Museum of Art in 2022.
